Mental Health Awareness | Top Tips

Meet Kellie, our Head of Operations & Wellness Officer. We asked Kellie for her top tips for improving mental well-being for work and life.

Mental wellbeing doesn't have one set meaning. We might use it to talk about how we feel, how well we're coping with daily life or what feels possible at the moment.Good mental wellbeing doesn't mean you're always happy or unaffected by your experiences. But poor mental wellbeing can make it more difficult to cope with daily life.

TIP NO 1.
It's good to talk. Better out than in; find someone you trust and share. My daughter Emilia has a great book called Ruby’s Worry – its so perfect. Ruby’s problems get bigger as she doesn’t share them, and she has this big grey cloud following her, until she sees another little boy on a bench and realises, he has a big cloud too. They share their worry and the cloud gets smaller.

TIP NO 2.
Ask for help. It's not a sign of weakness to seek help for our mind. We hire a PT for our physical body, why wouldn’t we look for help with our minds? If it’s all getting too much make a call – lots of charities that can help.

TIP NO 3.
Look after your physical health – my daily run, Peloton ride or walk to work through Green Park really shifts my mood. Also feed your body with good food and plenty of water, try not to over indulge all the time with booze and sugar – everything in moderation!

TIP NO 4.
Getting a good night's sleep can be a game changer; not easy in today’s crazy world but try to catch an early night once in a while. I listen to a meditation app to help disconnect, its called Daily Calm and I love it!

TIP NO 5.
Connection. Try to find your people and spend time with them; that’s what makes us human.

TIP NO 6.
Take a Break. A change in perspective can always alter things, go for a walk, get with nature, make a coffee, read a book.

TIP NO 7.
Do something you’re good at. Doing an activity you enjoy will take you away from what is causing you stress – that could be baking, boxing, photography.

TIP NO 8.
Accept who you are, and do you! We’re all different for a reason, how boring would the world be if we were all the same. Accept and celebrate your differences.

TIP NO 9.
Care for others. Connection is key, why not volunteer for a charity or something you care about. Helping people makes us feel better – its part of being human.
